Dear Robert Gray Families,
Welcome to our school community! We are looking forward to getting to know our new kindergarten students and their families.
As part of our full-day kindergarten entry process, all of our students take part in the Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKids), which is a three part process that includes family connection, kindergarten skills inventory, and early learning collaboration.
Your child’s assigned teacher will be contacting you to confirm and/or schedule an appointment on August 30, 31 or September 1. The WaKids screening and activities will take place during this time. Your appointment will be around one hour in length.
As a reminder this year kindergarten will “start smart” with a gradual transition to their school experience. The appointments are the first step, followed by all Kindergartners attending half days the following week. These half days will be either morning or afternoon starting September 5 and continuing through September 8. These smaller groups will allow for more support as students get to know their teacher and peers, and learn daily routines.
Our Robert Gray students will not have “mid-day” bus transportation.
- AM Session hours 9 a.m. – 11:40 a.m. If your child is a bussing student he/she will only ride the bus to school. All AM session students will need to be picked up by parent/guardian or daycare at 11:40 a.m.
- PM Session hours 12:50 – 3:30 p.m. If your child is a bussing student he/she will need to be dropped off at school by 12:50 p.m. via parent arranged transportation. He/She may ride the bus home at the end of the day.
- If you live within the walking boundary you will need to provide parent arranged transportation to and from school regardless of AM or PM session attendance.
Your kindergartener’s first FULL day of school is Monday, September 11. Our wonderful PTO and I invite you to join us for a Boo-Hoo Breakfast in the library that morning to assist in easing the transition for you. This will also give you the opportunity to meet other parents, hear from our PTO, and become familiar with a few more faces at Robert Gray.
